KINGDOMS

For adidas’ Honoring Black Excellence initiative, we pitched to go to MLK streets throughout the US and honor the community members that live there.

 THE DETAILS

  • “If you live on or near one of the nearly 900 streets in the U.S. named after Martin Luther King, Jr., you’re more likely to be poor, and you’re more likely to be Black. Some might argue that your street serves more as a symbol of inequality than of progress made since King’s death.” (Chris Rock)

But there is still excellence to be honored on these streets. The people that live there have thrived against the odds. For adidas’ Honoring Black Excellence initiative, we pitched to go to MLK streets throughout the US and honor the community members that live there.

KINGDOMS

  • Open on empty streets & lots of historically Black neighborhoods across the us. Suddenly, the stillness & emptiness of the scene is interrupted by a car driving by and as we hear deep, gritty VO—

  • VO: These are our streets

  • We cut to two young Black men in a suspended classic Camaro, taking a leisurely joy ride down the streets of their neighborhood.

  • VO: And here, we ride in chariots

  • We begin to cut between more footage of Black people driving -- a young woman in a old Impala driving, an older black couple in a minivan, etc.
